Welcome to Fourth Grade, leprechauns! We are so excited you are here!
Fourth grade is an important year in your child’s academic growth. It is a time when students continue to develop responsibility, independence, and perseverance while being challenged with more rigorous academic expectations aligned to Florida Standards.
This year we will be using SAVVAS myView Literacy Florida as our Language Arts curriculum. Students will participate in weekly reading assessments. They will use the Lexia Reading computer program for daily practice of literacy skills. The STAR Reading assessment will be used throughout the year to monitor reading progress and proficiency. Students will also receive explicit instruction and practice in Florida B.E.S.T. Writing skills, including planning, drafting, revising, and editing expository and argumentative essays.
For mathematics, we will utilize the Go Math Florida curriculum, which is aligned to the Florida Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.). Tests and quizzes will be given throughout the year to assess student progress. Students will also practice math skills using the i-Ready and Reflex computer programs, which include diagnostic assessments to help monitor math proficiency and growth.
Students will complete the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.) three times this year (August, December, and May) as part of the Florida Department of Education’s progress monitoring system for English Language Arts and Mathematics.
In Social Studies, instruction focuses on Florida History, including early exploration, Native American tribes, state government, economics, geography, and the role Florida has played in our nation’s development. Science instruction is inquiry-based and aligned to Florida’s science standards, with an emphasis on hands-on learning, critical thinking, and applying scientific concepts.
We look forward to having a terrific year in Fourth Grade and partnering with you to support your child’s success!
